रसायन शास्त्र किसी पदार्थ की उत्पत्ति या निर्माण से सम्बन्धित पदार्थों की पहचान, उनकी सामान्य एवं विशिष्ट गुण धर्मिता, पारस्परिक संयोजन, अभिक्रिया एवं स्वरूप परिवर्तनों या बदलाव की प्रवृत्तियों; प्राकृतिक, सामान्य और / या प्रयोगात्मक या विशेष परिस्थितियों में मिश्रण या यौगिक स्वरूप में नवीन तरह के कार्बनिक या अकार्बनिक पदार्थों और / या ठोस, तरल या गैसीय स्वरूप के पदार्थों और / या जीव द्रवीय स्वरूप में प्रकटीकरण साथ ही उनके दृश्य और अदृश्य स्वरूप का प्रकृति एवं प्राणियों के मनोदैहिक स्थिति पर पड़ने वाले प्रभाव का विशिष्ट अध्ययन है।
