नेतृत्व प्राणी का जन्मजात् या परिस्थिति प्रेरित स्थिति में उनकी मूल प्रवृत्ति तथा आनुवंशिक प्रभावजन्य वैयक्तिक, सामूहिक या अनुयायी हित में समायोजनात्मक दृष्टिकोण से दैहिक, दैविक, मानसिक या भौतिक किसी एक या एकाधिक स्तरों पर समस्या समाधान हेतु प्रत्यक्ष या अप्रत्यक्ष क्षमता होती है, जो उसके शिक्षण-प्रशिक्षण, कौशल, अनुभूति, परिस्थिति, सह-अस्तित्व, सह-अनुभूति, सूझ, अन्तर्दृष्टि बोध साथ ही दैहिक, मानसिक, वाचिक, सांकेतिक, मनोवैज्ञानिक, संगठनात्मक एवं समायोजन क्षमता निर्भर स्वाभाविक और / या आत्माभिव्यक्ति का गुण होता है, जो मानव में मानवेतर प्राणियों की अपेक्षा प्रायः स्वेच्छया कम तथा वाह्य प्रभाव जनित अधिक होता है और वनस्पति में नेतृत्व अपनी आवश्यकता, विकास एवं अस्तित्व रक्षा हेतु आकर्षण, विकर्षण या प्रतिस्पर्धा के रूप में परिलक्षित होता है।
