" तंत्रिका-तंत्र प्राणी के वातावरण में उसकी अनुभूति, व्यवहार एवं समायोजन प्रक्रिया में जैव- रसायन तथा जीवनी-शक्ति की मदद से योगदान कर प्राणी के जीवन के सकारात्मक, नकारात्मक या तटस्थ स्वरूप वाली सूक्ष्म या स्थूल प्रकृति वाली सक्रिय या निष्क्रिय गतिविधियों में न्यूनाधिक रूप में सहचर होता है। "
